Marketable Skills for EmploymenT

The Michelle Sous Foundation provides grants to competitively selected non-profit organizations that deliver life-changing education and training opportunities to underserved youth. We fund both local and international marketable skills opportunities.

Remnants into Rugs

In 2021 The Michelle Sous Foundation, in partnership with ROOTA (Rising Out of the Ashes), has provided income-generating looms to women in Cairo’s Garbage District (the Zabaleen). The women recycle clothing remnants from cloth factories into rugs, bags, and other items that are sold in Egypt and internationally at craft sales.

Training and Employment Facilitation

MarketableSkills for Shoubra el Kheima Youth, Egypt.

In 2018, MSF awarded a grant to the National Egyptian for Development Association (NEDA), based in Egypt, to fund a project titled “Marketable Job Skills for Shoubra el Kheima Youth” aiming to offering free training and employment facilitation to Egyptian youth.

NEDA has a solid track record of qualifying young people to meet the constantly changing needs of the Egyptian labor market. Since its inception in 2006, it has assisted thousands of unemployed youth, from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, in finding jobs owing to its strong training programs and wide labor market network.

The MSF funded project successfully reached 100 applicants and achieved a 80% training completion rate. Its rich training curriculum not only comprised of general career development skills such as work preparedness, professional etiquette, resume building and interviewing skills, it also offered job-specific training to candidates applying to fields requiring specified skills. Job-specific training programs included business administration, customer care, service provision for persons with disabilities, hair styling and others. Following the completion of the training, NEDA facilitated employment through job matching for the project beneficiaries and provided post-employment assistance, such as additional on-the-job training.

Owing to its comprehensive training and employment services, “Marketable Job Skills for Shoubra el Kheima Youth” the project received much praise and reviews from its beneficiaries:

“I learned how to look for a job in unconventional ways.” Lydia Ayman

“I learned about Labor law, our duties and rights.” Heba Gamil

“I learned that there’s nothing called “failure”, but there’re experiences and lessons learned.” Heba Samir
